Additional Professional Development Opportunities
Each year, the Graduate School sponsors Professional Development Workshops, and other special conferences and events.
The Professional Development Workshop Series began in spring 1999 and consists of workshops designed to meet the professional development needs of graduate students and postdoctoral scholars. The Series brings together students from diverse programs of study to focus on areas of collective interest, facilitate communication across disciplinary fields, provide for graduate alumni involvement, and offer networking opportunities. Fall semester’s Professional Development Workshop is entitled "Grant Writing 2004" and features guidance from successful grant writers. The workshop is divided into seven sessions as follows: Physical Sciences (September 14, 2-4 pm, 102 Kern), BIOMedical Sciences (September 21, 2-4 pm, 101 Henderson), Life Sciences (September 28, 2-4 pm, 102 Kern), Engineering (October 19, 2-4 pm, 102 Kern), Arts and Humanities (October 26, 2-4 pm, 102 Kern), Qualitative Social ScienceS (November 9, 2-4 pm, 102 Kern), Quantitative Social ScienceS (November 16, 2-4 pm, 102 Kern). Sessions are limited to forty participants and each participant may attend only one session. Registration materials areavailable two weeks before each session. During spring semester, a workshop on Career Options will be presented in cooperation with Career Services.
