University Park, PA – Forty-one students to take part in the CIC Summer Research Opportunities Program at Penn State
Beginning June 7 and over the next eight weeks, the Graduate School’s Office of Graduate Educational Equity will be hosting forty-one undergraduate students from across the United States and Puerto Rico who are taking part in the Committee on Institutional Cooperation’s (CIC) Summer Research Opportunities Program (SROP) at Penn State. This is the largest class ever hosted at the University.
The SROP program, initiated in 1986 by the CIC graduate schools deans, is designed to interest talented, undergraduate students from underrepresented groups in academic careers and to enhance their preparation for graduate study through intensive research experiences with faculty mentors.
As part of the program, students participating at all of the CIC institutions attend the national conference, where they have the opportunity to present parts of their projects in round table discussions. This year, the conference will be held at the University of Iowa, July 8-10.
At the end of the program, students are required to write a paper and an abstract describing their research projects and to present the results of their work at a campus symposium. The SROP Research Symposium will be held on July 27, starting at 9 a.m., at the Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel.
For more information about the SROP, contact the Office of Graduate Educational Equity at L-OGEEP@lists.psu.edu or 814-863-1663.
