Research Integrity Brown Bag Discussion Series

University Park -- Graduate Students Invited to Research Integrity Brown Bag Discussions

All graduate students are invited to attend a series of brown bag discussions on research integrity issues that is being held during the fall semester. Topics and presenters for the discussions are listed below. All brown bag discussions will take place from noon to 1 p.m. in 102 Kern Graduate Building. The series is being sponsored by the Office for Research Protections and the Graduate School. For more information, contact the Office for Research Protections at 865-1775.

September 21, "The Road to Approval to Conduct Human Participant Research." Presenters: Jodi Mathieu, social science IRB administrator, and Mary Becker, biomedical IRB administrator.

September 30, "Animal Research: The Institution’s Requirements and the Researcher’s Responsibilities." Presenter: Bill Greer, Compliance Coordinator, Animal Care, Biosafety & Radioactive Materials.

October 15, "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly of Informed Consent." Presenters: Jodi Mathieu, Social Science IRB Administrator, and Tracie Kahler, IRB Administrator for Continuing Reviews.

October 29, "Unraveling the Legalities of rDNA Research: Who is Liable for Compliance – the Institution or the Researcher?" Presenters: Bill Greer, Compliance Coordinator, Animal Care, Biosafety & Radioactive Materials, and Curt Speaker, Environmental Health & Safety Program Manager.

November 12, "Managing University Intellectual Property." Presenter: Ron Huss, Assistant Vice President for Technology Transfer and Director, Intellectual Property.

November 30, "When Do Conflicts of Interests Occur in Human Participant Research and Why Should We Care?" Presenter: Candice Yekel, Director, Office for Research Protections.

December 3, "Who Done It? Assigning Credit and Assuming Responsibility as an Author." Presenter: Richard Frisque, Professor of Molecular Virology.
