University Park, PA -- Thirty-eight students Participating in Summer Research Opportunities Program
Over the next several weeks, the Graduate School’s Office of Graduate Educational Equity Programs will be host to thirty-eight undergraduate students from across the United States and Puerto Rico who are participating in the Committee on Institutional Cooperation’s (CIC) Summer Research Opportunities Program (SROP) at Penn State.
The SROP, initiated in 1986 by the CIC graduate schools deans, is designed to interest talented, undergraduate students from underrepresented groups in academic careers and to enhance their preparation for graduate study through intensive research experiences with faculty mentors.
As part of the program, students participating at all of the CIC institutions attend the national conference, where they have the opportunity to present portions of their projects in round table discussions. This year, the conference will be held at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, July 15-17.
At the end of the program, students are required to write a paper and an abstract describing their research projects and to present the results of their work at a campus symposium. The SROP Research Symposium will be held July 26, beginning at 8:30 a.m., at the Nittany Lion Inn, Boardroom 1 and 2.
For more information about the SROP, contact the Graduate School’s Office of Graduate Educational Equity Programs at L-OGEEP@lists.psu.edu or 814-863-1663.
