University Park, PA -- Director, Network Operations Appointed
Chris
Brown has been appointed director of Network Operations and Data Systems
in the Graduate School. As director, he will provide leadership and support
to academic executives and administrative directors in the development,
analysis and implementation of information technology for the unit.
Brown is responsible for the management and analysis of data from various databases, including the Data Warehouse, Executive Information System (EIS), and ISIS, as well as external sources. He is also responsible for interfacing ISIS Graduate School sub-systems with other ISIS sub-systems, along with managing the Graduate School’s imaged student record system.
Brown has been employed by Penn State for more than seventeen years. Before joining the Graduate School, he was the lead applications programmer/analyst for the eLion Project Technical Team in the Division of Undergraduate Studies (DUS), where he was responsible for all aspects and processes of the eLion system and application development. Previously, he was the senior programmer/analyst for the Office of Administrative Systems.
Brown has shared his expertise on academic advising and information systems as a presenter at several conferences including the National Academic Advising Association Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference, the Pennsylvania Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators Conferences, Penn State Spend-a-Summer-Day, and DUS conferences. He also served as technical liaison and trainer/mentor to staff and colleagues in DUS on Smalltalk/VisualWave applications and was a teaching assistant for Penn State Object-oriented training using the same.
Before coming to Penn State, Brown was a sergeant in the United States Air Force and following his military service, he earned a bachelor of arts degree in psychology from Penn State.
