New GSAS President, President-elect

University Park, PA -- New GSAS President, President-elect

On July 1, Kevin R. Steele became the 5th president of the Graduate School Alumni Society (GSAS); Marianne E. Hazel took office as president-elect; and Tom C. Hogan moved into the immediate past president role. Steele has served on the GSAS Board of Directors since 2000 as the representative for The Dickinson School of Law and was elected president-elect in 2003. Hazel, who also served on the Board since 2000, is the chair of the Professional Development/Mentoring Committee and was the representative for the College of Education. Both president and president-elect will serve a two-year term.

Steele is chief of the Trials Division in the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office in Pennsylvania where he oversees several units including Arson, Domestic Violence, Drugs, Economic Crimes, Grand Jury, Insurance Fraud, Major Crimes, and Sex Crimes. He is also an adjunct professor of criminal law at Cabrini College and lectures for the Pennsylvania District Attorney's Institute, as well as numerous other law enforcement agencies. Steele received his master of laws degree in trial advocacy from Temple University, his law degree from The Dickinson School of Law, and his undergraduate degree in criminal justice from The George Washington University.

Hazel is an assistant professor in the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education at Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania, where she supervises student teachers, teaches courses, and advises freshman. Hazel holds a M.Ed. in curriculum and instruction from Penn State, a M.S. in administration from Western Maryland College, and a D.Ed. in educational leadership from Immaculata College.

The GSAS mission is to nurture relationships between graduate students of The Pennsylvania State University and its alumni, to enhance the total graduate experience, and to advance graduate education and research.
