University Park -- NEAGEP Annual Meeting and Science Day at Penn State
The Graduate School and the Office of Graduate Educational Equity Programs will be the hosts of the 2006 Northeast Alliance for Graduate Education and the Professoriate (NEAGEP) Annual Meeting and Science Day, to be held April 30 through May 2, at Penn State.
The Northeast Alliance is a consortium of universities committed to the recruitment, retention and graduation of underrepresented students in math, science, engineering, and technology, and is sponsored by the National Science Foundation. Ten universities form the alliance, which includes: the University of Massachusetts Amherst (lead), Boston University, MIT, Rutgers, Penn State, and the universities of Connecticut, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Maine.
Science Day, which will take place at the Nittany Lion Inn and is open to the public, includes a full day devoted to the discussion of the work of underrepresented students in the math, science, engineering, and technology fields, as well as the work of professors in these areas. As part of the program, Dr. Robert A. Cherry, trauma program medical director and critical care surgeon at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, will give the keynote address on Monday, May 1, at 1:15 p.m. in Ballroom D and E. Science Day also includes a Student Seminar on May 2, in the Assembly Room at the Inn.
