University Park -- Wardell Appointed Associate Dean for Graduate Student Affairs
Dr.
Mark Wardell, associate professor of labor studies and industrial relations
and sociology, has been appointed associate dean for Graduate Student Affairs
in the Graduate School, effective July 1. The associate dean for Graduate
Student Affairs is responsible for all Graduate School programming directly
related to graduate students, including enrichment and professional development
activities, and coordination and oversight of the annual Graduate Exhibition.
The associate dean is also responsible for managing graduate student concerns and grievances, analyzing student issues and conflicts, and advising students, faculty and administrators; reviewing and analyzing Graduate Council policies related to students to ensure coordination with all related University policies consistent with goals of graduate education at Penn State; and providing administrative oversight of the special individualized, interdisciplinary doctoral major.
Dr. Wardell has been a Penn State faculty member since 1993. He brings a wealth of experience in graduate education and administration as a long-standing member of Graduate Council, former head of the Department of Labor Studies and Industrial Relations in the College of the Liberal Arts, and for the past year, interim assistant dean of the Graduate School. His areas of research include work and work processes; technology and organization; and work and family linkages. He is also an associate professor of information sciences and technology and holds research appointments in the Center for the Information Society and the Center for Work and Family Research. He will retain a 25 percent appointment in his tenure home in the College of the Liberal Arts.
