Graduate School Orientation, Welcome Social Set for Aug. 29

University Park -- Graduate School Orientation, Welcome Social Set for Aug. 29

A half-day orientation program for all new Penn State graduate students is being sponsored by the Graduate School on Tuesday, August 29, from 1 to 5 p.m. in the Forum Building on the University Park campus. Sessions during the program will cover important topics such as research protections, academic information (e.g., plagiarism, committee selection, examinations, assistantship responsibilities), and health insurance. The health insurance session is mandatory for all new international graduate students.

All graduate students, both international and domestic on any form of assistance administered through the University, are automatically enrolled in the graduate assistant benefits program that will be covered during this session. Also, University Health Services plans to have the capability of enrolling students on the spot during the half-day orientation at the Forum.

Immediately following the orientation program, the Graduate School will host a social in the lobby of the Kern Graduate Building beginning at 5:30 p.m. to welcome all graduate students to the new academic year. The Welcome Social is an opportunity for students to meet colleagues and members of the Penn State community, as well as to explore the various services offered by the University organizations that will be represented at the event. Among these are the Center for Women Students, International Student Council, Graduate Student Association, Career Development and Placement and more.

For more information about the Orientation Program and the Welcome Social, please contact Dawn Nelson in the Graduate School at dmn3@psu.edu or 814-865-2517.
