University Park -- Nominations Sought for GSAS Humanitarian Award
The Graduate School Alumni Society (GSAS) Board of Directors is seeking nominations for the GSAS Humanitarian Award. The award recognizes an alumnus/alumna holding a graduate degree from Penn State whose conduct and efforts exemplify those of a humanitarian. This includes actions beyond the responsibilities of one’s profession, which help to improve the welfare of humankind, including significant contributions benefiting one’s community, state, nation, or people of other nations.
The deadline to submit nominations is November 1. Nominations may be submitted by any individual or group, and self-nominations will also be accepted.
To be eligible, a nominee must be a living alumnus/alumna of a previous or current graduate degree program from Penn State, and a period of at least ten years should have lapsed after completion of his/her graduate degree. Nominations should clearly demonstrate how the nominee's graduate education contributed to his/her humanitarian efforts. All nominations should include three letters of reference from people who support the nomination along with additional supporting documents. Current employees of Penn State are not eligible to receive this award.
Selection of the recipient of the award is based upon humanitarian service to society over the life career of the individual rather than on a single event or material and political success. The recipient is chosen by a selection committee of the Graduate School Alumni Society and is invited to return to the University Park campus in the spring to be recognized.
A nomination sheet and guidelines for the award, as well as information about previous recipients are available online. For more information, contact Kendra Yoder in the Graduate School's Alumni and Public Relations Office at kky1@psu.edu or 814-865-9452.
