University Park, PA -- Graduate School Orientation, Fall Welcome Reception Set for Aug. 23

A half-day orientation program for all new Penn State graduate students, sponsored by the Graduate School, will be held on Thursday, August 23, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. in the Arts Building and in Music Building I on the University Park campus. Sessions during the orientation will cover important topics such as plagiarism, graduate student life, and health insurance.

The health insurance session is mandatory for all new international graduate students. All graduate students, both international and domestic, on any form of assistance administered through the University are automatically enrolled in the graduate assistant benefits program that will be covered during this session. Also, University Health Services plans to have the capability of enrolling students on the spot during the half-day orientation.

Immediately following the orientation program, the Graduate School will host a reception in the lobby of the Kern Graduate Building beginning at 5:00 p.m. to welcome all graduate students to the new academic year. The Welcome Reception is an opportunity for students to meet colleagues and members of the Penn State community, as well as to explore the various services offered by the University organizations that will be represented at the event. Among these are the Center for Women Students, International Student Council, Graduate Student Association, Career Development and Placement and more.
